We got up Friday morning, and off to Slide Rock. This place
is absolutely beautiful, and we could spend a few days here!
The color is a strong, red, and orange, with a ton of lush
green trees and plants. The river runs through a valley with smooth rocks
formed as slides. There are shallow and deep areas. The water is freezing, but
inviting. I could spend days here, playing, laying around, and hiking up the
river. The kids love it, as do Scott and I. We took a hike up the river, where
the boulders turn to a beautiful blue, gray.
Jake quickly found the small cliff everyone was jumping off
and jumped a couple times. No one else wanted to do it at this time. This whole
trip, Jake has been talking about jumping off the biggest cliff…..so we
ventured over to the big cliffs where some were already jumping. Holy cow, is
it high! We had to scale a rock wall just to get down to where he wanted to
jump from. That was scary enough, but then to get to the edge of the cliff
where they were jumping was crazy!! Scott and Jake planned on jumping. They
were ready, counted down, even ran to the edge like they were going to jump,
but just couldn’t get themselves to hurl their bodies off a perfectly safe
wall, into an ice cold pool of water 50 feet down. I could completely
understand, as I sat on the rocks taking pictures with absolutely no inkling to
jump. THEN Amaya piped up and said she was going to jump. Really??? You go
girl!! She counted down, we had our cameras ready, and she jumped! Just like it
was no big deal. She did say she brushed her back against some rocks or dirt at
the bottom, which scared me, but was all good, and PROUD! She amazes me. She is
so shy, but is able to do the most random stuff most people will not do.
Awesome! After the jump, we went back to the slides and played some more, and
Ryan got in the line to jump off the 15 foot wall. It took him a while, but he
did it! After more time, Jake said he wanted to jump off the big wall again, so
the boys went up the rocks to the big cliff, and Amaya and I walked down the
river, over water falls and boulders, to get to the base of the cliff jump.
Again, we were ready with cameras, but Jake couldn’t do it. I am proud and
excited that he tried. After that, Amaya and I scaled about 80 feet of rocks
and boulders to get back up to the top. Phew, that was so fun! Back to the car
we went to get on our way to Page, Arizona.
