Fishing

Scott went trout fishing yesterday with his dad up at Stoney Creek. He didn't catch any, but his dad caught 3. They threw 2 small ones back, but kept this eye opening, whopper of a trout! It is 18 inches long. They are so proud!

It's funny how Jake is measuring the fish.....like a man! They always indulge in the size of fish that was caught. He didn't need any instruction, just did it that way. It must be ingrained in the male brain.

Proud Scott of his dad's catch!!! Wowser!

Home

Friday: Dad had a pretty good day this day, and is expecting to go home on Saturday. He was moved out to 2W. No pain still and just wanting to go home.

Saturday: Dad was just discharged and is on his way home to recoup! He is doing well.

The picture is from Friday night, when Lisa's family and I were up visiting. Tiffany went up to visit after working at her new job at The Buckle. We have a new addition to our family...Charlotte. She is from Germany and is an exchange student who will be staying with Lisa til the end of the school year. Congrats Papa, on being a new Papa once again!

Update

Dad is pretty tired today, probably from the heart attack in combination with the not sleeping last night, but he actually looks good. He feels good, just tired. Dr Meengs (cardiologist) was in earlier and said that he could go home this weekend....my dad is taking that as tomorrow, but I am not so sure of that. He really wants to go, as he is bored just sitting there. (which is what he will be doing at home for the next 2 weeks per Dr Meengs). His heart attack was of "moderate" size and needs to build up scar tissue over the next few weeks because of the softness of the area of damage. If he doesn't "cool his jets" for the next few weeks, he runs the risk of "blowing out" that area of damage from the increased blood pressure in his heart and if that were to happen he would be in trouble. So, we are planning on a peaceful, quiet next few weeks so that he can form the much needed scar tissue. This is the norm for people suffering from a heart attack.

Regardless, he is doing well, and is still taking it all in. He is being moved to 2W today to be monitored. He will have to share a room now, so we will see how that goes. Hopefully it is someone that he will either learn a lot from, or just get along with really well.

Elevated Troponin

According to the ICU nurse, Kathy, my dad had a pretty good night. "He is quite the talker", she told me this am, and I had to laugh. He didn't sleep well, but that is pretty much the norm in a hospital, especially ICU. His troponin (a heart specific enzyme that measures heart damage) isactually elevated this am. When he got there yesterday, he was at 2.4, which is also elevated (normal is <0.1)and this morning it is 8.2. What??? She told me that it usually still goes up after the cath, but I think this is higher than the expected. We will have to see what the doctor says.
Thank you for all of you support, love and PRAYERS.

Acute MI

Well, I am sitting in the ICU waiting room at Mercy. My dad had an inferior wall MI today. Apparently he has been having intermittent chest pain the last 2 nights and it got so bad today so he decided to go to the ER. This is HUGE for him, as he has the hardest time to just go to the doctor's office. He has been up the last 2 nights moaning, using a heating pad, had nausea, you know, the regular text book signs of an acute heart attack, but hasn't come in. If you know me, or any of my siblings, you know how stubborn (I like to say strong) that we are, well, we just didn't come by that by chance. We learned it from 2 very strong people that we know...my mom and dad. Anyways, to Hackley they went, then on to Mercy by ambulance (with lights and sirens on no less). He has had a cardiac cath already, which stopped any further damage from happening, and is now in the ICU, where he will be for the next 24 hours. They had to place 2 stents in the artery to keep it open, and will need to monitor his heart very closely for irritation and to make sure there is appropriate blood flow. After the ICU he will be transferred out to the telemetry floor where they will continue to monitor his labs (blood tests) and his heart. After that, he will need cardiac rehab and a complete life style change. He is a big smoker, like 2-3 packs per day, uses a primatene mist inhaler like it is going out of style, and lives quite sedentary. He used to golf and build homes, but doesn't do much physical activity anymore. Because he has been having chest pain for 2 days, there is already some damage to the heart muscle that will never be returned, so we pray that some of that comes back to functioning. Dr. Boyer told my mom that if you were going to have a heart attack, that this is the one that you would want. I take that as a good thing, considering the problem.
He has such a big road ahead of him, I don't know if he (or anyone else in our family for that matter) fully realizes the change that is needed. I know his stubbornness is going to get in the way of some of this. I was telling him that rehab would be good for him because it would give himsomething to do, but he just kind of made a groan, like maybe he really won't do it. This worries me. He has changed so much from when we were little, and even a lot since Tiffany was the first grandchild. I really want him to be around for my kids to enjoy. I love to see his face when my kids go to give him "loves (goodbye hugs and kisses). He loves it, his eyes just sparkle!! I can't imagine not having him around.
He had an event like this last fall, but didn't do anything about it when it needed to be done. He went to see the primary care doc a few days later, but by then, his heart didn't show anything. He was supposed to follow up with a stress test, but didn't do it. Maybe that would have shown something that would have prevented this, we will never know, (I believe he had a small MI then) but we can't live in the past and keep dwelling on the coulda, woulda, shoulda, we have to get on to the healing and preventing it from happening again. Right now he is stable and actually feeling good. Hey, it can only get better from here!
This picture shows Dad's blockage before and after. The L side is prior to the stents placed. The R side is after the artery is opened up, stents placed, and blood flow has returned to the posterior, lower side of the heart. This is amazing!

Stoney Creek 2

Today we went up to Stoney Creek to tube again. It was just me, Scott, Amaya, Jake and Conner (my nephew). Again, it was a beautiful day. We decided to eat at the Country Dairy again before the float down the river. My kids, of course, like the cows the best.

A game that the kids were playing.

Checking out the cows.

I had to put this pic in. It cracks me up that I caught this in a photo. How gross is that!

Getting ready to float down the river.

Done with the float, now, on the the beach.

This is the last week off before school starts and Scott has vacation. It is so nice when he has consecutive days off for us to enjoy some family time. (Ryan went to daycare today so we had less to worry about floating down the river) Jake has a bit of a hard time tubing. He is scared, I am not sure of what, but he takes almost the entire way down before he is comfortable on the river. This river is actually walkable by him, but he thinks that it is too deep.

I am sad for the summer to come to an end. It took a long time for the warm weather to get here, and we have been enjoying it since, but I am not ready for the fall and winter weather. It has been a nice summer. I feel that we have been doing a lot of summer-outside activities. Next week school starts and Jake will be going everyday. He is going into Young 5's. I am so excited for him. He really will enjoy it, as he is a social little boy!

Full Serve

Full Serve?? Is this real? I saw this tonight as I was driving in Muskegon. It is actually quite refreshing to see. I can't even remember the last time that I have seen a full service gas station. I remember them, having my windows washed, my oil and tires checked, and not having to get out of my blue escort wagon in the snow to pump gas, but they seem to be a thing of the past...sadly.

Around the yard...Jake

Jake playing a little baseball with Daddy. He was more interested in having his picture taken by me for a part of the time. Then when he started hitting poorly, he got mad at Daddy and blamed it on him.

J: Daddy, you are throwing me a curve ball, I am not playing anymore til you throw it straight (and he proceeded to sit down).

Daddy explained to him about sportsmanship and not always playing the best and just trying your best and he started playing better very soon. Then he told him that when he was Jake's age, that he couldn't even play as well as Jake does

Daddy loves to go out and play catch, or whatever type of sport that they want to play. It is so wonderful that he does this with the kids.

His face cracks me up in this picture. He missed the ball here and it shows!

Around the yard.. Ryan

Wheeee.......

Going down the slide.

Playing some golf.

Trying to get into the car.

We still haven't cut his hair. It is so cute, with it's little curls. I just can't do it. Maybe it's because I still think he looks like a baby, and if I cut it, he won't still have that baby look. He is our littlest, and we want to cherish that "baby" for as long as we can.

I have decided that he looks a little like Matthew McConahey with his long locks of hair. What a good looking kid Ryan is.

Around the yard

Tonight, while outside, I saw a few things that I thought warranted a picture.

It's hard to see a grasshopper really close up without them jumping away. It really is amazing all the different parts that make up this bug.

Chomp, chomp, chomp goes the very hungry caterpillar. The last 2 years, I have tried to plant milkweed in the yard so that I could get THIS, without even hunting for it or keeping it in an aquarium. This year, we are leaving them alone on their LIVE milkweed.

Gross dead mosquito, but not as gross as a live mosquito.

One of the many, crab grass, weeds that Scott has picked out of the grass.

Blackberries!! We are getting so many weeds, that it is becoming harder to get into the bushes to pick these berries.
This is what is left of a tree before all the "vines" have taken it over. If I don't "liberate" this tree from these vines. It will smother and die.

I LOVE hydrangea's, the big ball of flowers that they get. I could never have enough of them in my yard.

This wasp's nest is right over the driveway. It is about the size of a football, and needs to be removed. I think we are going to cut either the tree, or just the branch down to get it out. (probably the entire tree) Scott is allergic, so this will almost be comical to see in action.

Awe..

This is so far my favorite picture of all my loves.

Looking at these pics, I have to think about Ryan and the character that he is certainly becoming.
What a clown!!

Yuck

This spider is right off my front porch, on the hydrangea. I saw something it the web earlier, but came out tonight to find this huge spider eating, and because this stuff interests me....it goes on the blog.

Mr. Spider (or Mrs.?) has caught himself a bee or wasp. It looks dehydrated. I don't know, I was trying to get cool pics, but wasn't willing to get that close to it.
