Hmmm, hips/legs

We are at Dr. Forness' office today, this is our 6 week check up, they are repeating X-rays today, and will be comparing the lengthwise X-rays from 2009.
He was comparing 2009 to 2012 to see if the axis (angle and direction from the hip down to the ankle) has gotten any worse. The X-ray came back and he says that it is about the same. When Amaya was 8,  the initial problems were figured out. At that time, they said she had "knock knees". This has always been apparent, so not a surprise to us. The measurement between her ankles at that time was 7 cm, and is now 11 cm.
The problem is that she has continued pain, which limits her activities. She got tendinitis when she was in Girls on the Run in 3rd grade and could hardly finish the final race, she hurts every time she runs! When we went skiing this year, she couldn't even walk after a few hours on the hills. We are sad and sick of all of her pain. It hurts my heart.
Dr. Forness has recommended for her to have surgery. Both of her femurs, and both of her tibias are actually growing crooked, or rounded, when they should be straight.

The surgery has been scheduled for September 26. We would rather it be in the summer, so she could recoup without missing school, but they are booked through October. We are on a waiting list to potentially be moved up, but EVERYONE is on that list. We are praying for a sooner time so she doesn't miss school, and can recover while lying on a raft, in the pool.
Amaya seems to be completely OK with this. She is a bit scared, but seems so brave, after having some easy questions answered by me, the RN mom, who has recently had foot surgery. I think she is ready to move on and not have any problems. A big motivator of this is the potential to go skiing next winter!

Temperature

Just an FYI from Amaya; your belly button temperature is a little bit higher than an ear temperature!
